Savory Fig and Onion Turkey Burgers

If you are looking for another reason to feel bad for sacrificing flavor when making healthier food choices, you will want to scroll on by this recipe. We pair sweet figs with savory onion and garlic for a flavor that will truly make you rethink your turkey burger hesitations.
 
1 lb ground turkey
⅛ tsp black pepper
½ tsp salt
½ small apple, grated
1 tsp extra virgin olive oil or avocado oil
 
¾ c. mayo
1 canned chipotle
1 tsp adobo sauce from canned chipotle
1 tsp honey
1 T. lime juice
5-6 fresh basil leaves
 
red onions - thinly sliced
lime juice - just a squeeze
leafy green lettuce
really good hamburger buns
Butter, softened
 
Mix ground turkey, pepper, salt, Fischer and Wieser Savory Fig and Onion Spread, grated apple and oil in a bowl until blended. Form into 4 patties and place in the freezer. Squeeze a bit of lime juice into a bowl of ice water and place the red onions in there for at least 10 minutes (this gets rid of the overpowering bite). Blend mayo, chipotle, adobo, honey, lime juice and basil leaves in food processor or blender. Set in refrigerator. Slice buns and butter each side.
 
Get the grill ready. I like to lightly soak a paper towel with olive oil and go across the grates to ensure the meat doesn’t stick. Fire up the grill to medium heat and then take burgers from the freezer and place on the grill. They will take about 4 minutes each side. The last 2 minutes place your buns butter side down on the grill until they are just toasted and top the burgers with cheddar for a minute just so it melts. Assemble your burgers with red onion, lettuce and a generous dollop of chipotle sauce. Try and eat just one.
