from the National Association for the Specialty Food Trade
Case D. Fischer and Mark Wieser awarded gold statue in Red Carpet Ceremony held in New York City
Fredericksburg, Texas (June 29, 2010) – Mom’s Spaghetti Sauce was named Outstanding Classic of 2010 in the 38th annual sofi™ Awards from the National Association for the Specialty Food Trade, Inc. The sofi™ Awards recognize the best in specialty food and beverages and are a coveted industry honor. “sofi” stands for Specialty Outstanding Food Innovation.
The sauce was one of 140 Silver Finalists selected by a national panel of specialty food experts from a record 2,257 contenders this year. The winners were announced at a red-carpet ceremony June 28 at the 56th Summer Fancy Food Show in New York City. Noted Executive chef Dan Barber presented Case D. Fischer, President and CEO, and Mark Wieser, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Fischer & Wieser Specialty Foods, Inc., with their sofi™ Gold Award, a chef statue.
“This year’s winners reflect the spirit of innovation and creativity that are the hallmark of the specialty food industry,” said Ann Daw, president of the NASFT.
"We are especially proud to win this award in the Classic Category, since it is one of the most prestigious categories to win," commented Fischer. He went on to say, "All of the products have been on the market for at least 12 years and are the best of the best in their respective categories. We are extraordinarily honored to be in this distinguished company."
Mom's homemade goodness was first shared with the public in 1986, when Patrick Timpone first bottled his mother Nenfa's recipe. Fischer & Wieser purchased the brand in 2001, continuing the tradition of using Sicilian olive oil and sweet California tomatoes, as well as Nenfa's image on the label.
Now made in Fredericksburg, Texas, at Fischer & Wieser's corporate headquarters, Mom's has become a brand staple of the company, along with their Gourmet line which includes The Original Roasted Raspberry Chipotle Sauce®, named Outstanding New Best Seller by NASFT.
Fischer & Wieser, still owned and operated by members of the Fischer and Wieser families, is a leading specialty food manufacturer in Fredericksburg, Texas. The company manufactures more than a hundred specialty food products – many of them award-winning – and distributes them to specialty food retailers, as well as club and grocery markets around the world.
