How did this car wind up in Fredericksburg?
Answer : The car was found abandoned by an individual who decided to make a bed and breakfast out of it. Unable to find a suitable location for the car in Granbury, Texas he decided to bring it to Fredericksburg. Since Fischer and Wieser Specialty Foods, Inc. owned the warehouse near where the old San Antonio, Fredericksburg & Great Northern Railway depot once stood, it was decided to allow him to place it there. Shortly after opening for business he sold it to another businessman, who soon grew tired of operating it and offered it to Fischer & Wieser Specialty Foods, Inc.. Originally, this car was leased to the QA&P Railroad Company by the Burnett family after his death. It was repainted and saw service along the Frisco route until it was retired in the early 1960s. The missing years are still being determined. One story has it that it was used in Tennessee, but we are not actually certain.
Is the car the same as when Theodore Roosevelt supposedly slept in it?
Answer : Unfortunately, no. As all business cars used during that era, many were returned to cities where they could be serviced and out-fitted with the latest trend in rail travel. This car was last remodeled in St. Louis shortly before it was decommissioned from the Frisco Line.
